Lesson was cancelled because the plane won’t start

Planes at Cranfield

Today I learned one of the pitfalls of learning to fly in a cold country because my lesson was cancelled because the plane won’t start.
We went out to the plane and as we were running through the start-up checks the plane simply refused to start.
We tried the prime, throttle and mixture settings. Tried to manually turn the blade through a few rotations and also got two other instructors to have a look.
After around 30 minutes of trying we had to admit defeat and head back inside which is kind of gutting as the weather was brilliant.
Luckily I have a lesson booked for tomorrow (in a different plane) so hopefully I will get some time in the air this week.
The only annoying thing is the airfield is a 50 mile round trip so I am starting to see the pitfall of booking the first lessons of the day. Maybe I should switch to a mid morning and afternoon lesson depending on availability.
As I have been grounded it’s time to hit the books and read the navigation chapter in my PPL book.
Let’s hope I have better luck tomorrow!

Edit – Day two and the weather has decided to treat us to some snow, so there will be no flying today.
Pretty frustrating when you can only fly at weekends but what can you do?
