PPL Lesson 7: Slow Flight

Out the window

Today I had PPL Lesson 7: Slow Flight.
My instructor and I decided to use this lesson to finish stalling. There was a huge headwind of 24 kts so it was pretty rocky up until 3000ft.
We followed on from my previous stalling lesson but we also learned how to recover from a stall with full flaps and how to recover from a stall in a turn.
There isn’t really much to add to my previous write-up, as soon as you detect the stall you change the attitude to nose down, the carb heat goes in and the power goes to max. With flaps as soon as you recover you knock it up 10 degrees then every time you are positively climbing you take another 10 degrees off.
After this we did a couple of steep turns and thankfully I did not feel sick at all this time unlike the last time we did them.
As the weather was so choppy my instructor handled take of and landing again but he told me that we are now on to circuits so hopefully now I have my class 1 medical I should be going solo in the next few lessons.
Once we got back to the school I decided to sit the first 3 of my PPL exams. I sat air law, operational procedures & human performance and limitations.
My instructor from the trial lesson was there so I spoke to him about how his line training is going as he is now flying the 737-800 for Ryanair. Needless to say he is absolutely loving life and has been offered Athens or Dublin as a base, he has chosen Dublin so anyone from Ireland may be flown by him soon.
The head instructor wasn’t at the school today so my exams could not be graded officially but I will update the blog post linked above as soon as I have the results.
All in all a good day and another 1.3 hours into the log book. I am currently sitting at 8.2 hours.
